One of the more challenging aspects of keeping this site’s content fresh us coming up with entertaining and informative topics to write about. Over the last several months, many of you have sent me your questions and I have done my best to try and find out the answers to them. Chances are, if you have a question about something in the Smyrna Vinings area, you are not the only one.
Whether it is a question about a new development, a variance sign you saw down the street, a new business opening up, or advice on buying and selling real estate, please submit it below in the comments section. Some questions I will be able to answer for you immediately…others I’ll have to do extensive research, and there will even be some that I won’t be able to come up with an answer for. When I do have an answer, I’ll post it on the main page for everyone to enjoy.
With your help, I aim to keep the site fresh and informative!

Hello,
Do you have any information about the construction timeframes on the Park Vinings and Riverwood Mixed Use developments at Cobb Pkwy and Cumberland Blvd?
Thank you for keeping us updated.

Hi, Mason - Since you posted that you’re looking for topics, I thought I’d ask this general commercial rental question.
What is the general range of square foot leasing rates for retail store front and office rentals in the new developments around Smyrna? I’m curious about Ivy Walk, Smyrna Village, West Village, and Jonquil Plaza and am just trying to get a global picture.
Thanks so much.
Dianne
Hi, Mason:
What is the latest on the Quiet Zone project that will upgrade the RR intersections at Market Village and Hawthorne? I know that the funding is in place as a result of a bill that Bush signed last summer, but how long does it take to get the money and start the upgrades to that the trains no longer have to sound their horn and disturb the residents around those areas?
Cheers!
Why is the Forest Hills community of Smyrna have a “lay over” or considered a “historic district?”
Do you know anything about the 30 acres for sale on Hurt Rd? Does that include the apartment complex?
First timer….very intresting…If your schedule will allow maybe lunch in the near future…I will have Rosemary Rivera from my office contact you…
Thanks..Mayor Max
Hi Mason,
I drove down Concord yesterday and at a glance it looked like Love Street gift shop has expanded into the property to the left of their established shop…Traffic was brisk, so I did not get a good look to see if this was the case or not, and their website does not offer any information. What’s the scoop?
Also, what’s the progress on the expansion of Concord?
The Dairy Queen on South Cobb is gone! Thanks for 43 years of business…
What is the latest, if anything on Belmont Hills?
Been a few months since I have heard anything about this project. Would be curious to know if they are sitting on this project until the real-estate market turns around.
Thanks,
Jason

I just looked at their site and the location marker is at the corner of Windy Hill and Atlanta Road where the Belmont Hills site is located. I’ll be on the phone Wednesday to see what information I can get. I hope Halpern has not scrapped their plans to turn Belmont into a mixed use project.
Big trucks are hauling dirt back into an area off North Cooper Lake Road to use in landscaping a new park. The area is just off Nowlin Road. We’ve heard rumors that the area is an old landfill that hadn’t perked enough to build on yet. Apparently the new park will have trails and a dog run. It sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood. What’s the story?

Cobb project on the shelf
The Cobb County redevelopment known as Oakdale Town Center won’t begin this year, according to Branch Properties of Atlanta.
The 24-acre site is at South Cobb Drive and I-285. Branch and Easlan Capital Group bought the property for $19.3 million, according to Databank. The sellers were the Connor Group and Petroleum Realty.
An apartment complex is there now, but preliminary development plans call for a mix of uses. One space might be 180,000 square feet, enough for a big-box retailer.
Great site, regular viewer myself. Any word on what retailers might occupy Jonquil Village, Laurel Commons II, or the Shoppes at Smyrna Heights? Publix and possibly Smoothie King are the only clues I have been able to find, any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chip
At the corner of Windy Hill & Atlanta Rd a new sign has appeared for Brock Built Homes ‘Belmont Chase.’ Drove through the neighborhood Friday evening (2/22/08). Only two homes are completed these homes ARE in Smyrna city limits. This is the FIRST new, high end construction, north of Windyhill. I am sure this builder is banking on Belmont being redeveloped. The surounding neighborhood is typical old Smyrna. I am excited to see a quality builder investing in my end of the community instead of latching on to Atlanta Rd & 285. Go check it out the homes ’start’ in the 350’s. Maybe in a few years a developer will bulldoze my subdivision and write me a big check LOL.
Since I asked, thought I would share what i could find. On http://www.smyrnavinings.com/ they recently posted that the Shoppes at Smyrna Heights would feature two restaurants, one opened by celebrity chef Marvin Woods and the other with live entertainment. In addition, a boutique wine, cheese and chocolate shop will be located in the retail center. Along with the Brinkley Park expansion, the new American Legion post, and the Concord Road widening and multi-use trail, very exciting developments are occurring along Concord Road between Atlanta Rd and S Cobb Dr.
Your posts are thinning out!! Freds is gone now too.
Any new ‘developments’ on Crossings? The place is almost vacant.
What about the new development on Atlanta Rd by Creatwood? Any info on this too?
Why do I get this error everytime I try to search on your neighborhood links to subdivisions?

“Smyrna, Georgia embarrased on Oprah’s Big Give”
March 31, 2008
Sunday night, the new Oprah show entitled “Big Give” came to Atlanta and featured many different local places including the Smyrna fire station and crew. Sheg, one of the contestants was asked by the fire department to help a family with a needy child.
The child however, had recently died, and Smyrna’s own Carmichael Funeral Home refused to help out the family with funeral costs. What a disgrace! You can find the article in the AJC dated 3.31.08
“Sheg waits around until the family comes home and tries to find a way to help them pay for the funeral. They call the funeral home so that Sheg can work something out, but the funeral director is home eating dinner and watching Dancing With the Stars, so he refuses to come down. The poor mother of the girl starts hysterically crying and Sheg begs the guy for help to no avail. Something tells me this man is going to get a visit from the people who do Oprah’s dirty work (yes, I’m talking to you, Gayle King) and get some big giving smacked into his head.”
What is going on with four corners?? I noticed Hollywood video is gone and 24/7 fitness. Becky’s school of dance moved across the street, and one of the wachovia atm machines is gone….I heard that they are going to build a new Kroger with a fuel center there. Is there any truth to this??

Hi, I don’t know if you still check this site, but I’m wondering if anyone can give me an update for Jonquil Village and Belmont Hills. It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything from anyone on this and I’d love to have any news at all.
Thanks!
